Dear Yolanda,
After seeing the “ Shadow of an
Indian Star” Ikard info and reading about William Ikard “Pike” Paul being of
Native American descent, I checked the Dawes Rolls.
Dawes Final Rolls Results This is a breakdown by Card Number which tends to show family groups.

Evidently Isabella Tubbs was the
Choctaw. However, I have not proven
this. In any event none of our Ikards
were issued Roll numbers. They were
enrolled as either Mississippi Choctaw Rejected or Parents (usually means they
were parents of a child who married an Indian.
At least that’s what it meant when I found my children’s great
grandparents listed on the rolls. When
I checked it out the P meant parents of a girl who had married a Chickasaw
Indian.)
Then I found this and please let me
assure you I will be obtaining a copy of this case law.
"The question for us to
determine is whether there appears in this transaction such a consideration as
will support an express promise to pay. By virtue of the terms of Act Cong.
July 1, 1902, c. 1362, § 19, 32 Stat. 643, ratified September 25, 1902,
plaintiff in error lost the right of possession of the lands attempted to be
conveyed to defendant in error, the price of which furnished the consideration
of the note sued on. By that act such right of possession went back into the
tribe by operation of law. It follows that at the time of this transaction the
payee had nothing in these lands which he could convey to a citizen of the
Choctaw Nation, much less a citizen of the United States, or to a corporation
organized under its laws, such as is defendant in error. Turner v. Gilliland, 4
Indian Terr. 606, 76 S.W. 253; Ikard v. Minter, 4 Indian Terr.
214, 69 S.W. 852; Holford v. James, 4 Indian Terr. 632, 76 S.W. 261."
Enrollment: Prior to 30 U. S.
Stat. L., 503, and 31 U. S. Stat. L., 236, regarding the enrollment of
Mississippi Choctaws, such an Indian who had not been on the rolls of the
Choctaw Nation as a citizen thereof could not hold lands in the Choctaw and
Chickasaw Nations. Ikard v Minter (Ind. T., 1902), 69 S. W., 852.
